A Capable Well Thought Out Trailer With An Amazing Kitchen

The Vintage Trailer Works XTR off-road camping trailer offers a fantastic balance of rugged
capability and thoughtful features, making it an ideal choice for adventurous campers. As a
teardrop-style trailer designed to go where others might not, the XTR impresses with its ability to tackle rough terrain and provide a comfortable base camp for outdoor explorations. One standout feature that I particularly appreciated was the rear kitchen. It is not only easily accessible but also highly functional, making meal prep during camping trips a breeze.
The rear hatch, which covers the kitchen, doubles as a sunshade and rain block, enhancing the versatility of this setup. This clever design adds a layer of protection against the elements while you’re cooking outdoors, allowing you to enjoy the process without worrying about rain or harsh sunlight. The kitchen is well-equipped, with good storage options for your food and cooking tools. I was especially pleased with the slide-out refrigerator, which made accessing cold food and drinks simple and efficient, and the compact two-burner stove, which handled all our cooking needs.

Another great feature of the kitchen area is the sink and water storage system, which proved to
be invaluable for washing dishes, preparing food, and even for showers. Having this setup in
such a compact trailer was a huge benefit, especially when camping in remote areas where access to water isn’t guaranteed. The addition of an outdoor shower was a welcome touch, providing the luxury of hot showers at the end of long, tiring days. This feature added a level of comfort that’s hard to find in many off-road trailers.

The sleeping quarters in the XTR were another area where the trailer exceeded expectations. The sleeping area was comfortable, spacious enough for a good night’s rest, and the quiet fan was a lifesaver, providing excellent airflow and ensuring we stayed cool even in warm weather. This attention to comfort and detail really sets the XTR apart from more bare-bones camping trailers.
On the performance front, the independent suspension is one of the XTR’s standout features. It allowed us to access remote and rugged camping spots with ease. The trailer handled rough trails with minimal bounce and sway, making the journey more enjoyable and less stressful. The inclusion of electric trailer brakes also provided peace of mind, ensuring we could safely tow the trailer even on steep or challenging descents.

The craftsmanship on the XTR is impressive. From the durable materials to the thoughtful design details, it’s clear that this trailer is built to last. One of the customizations I made was adding an aluminum truck toolbox to the tongue, which gave us even more storage space for gear and tools.
This addition complemented the trailer’s already good storage capacity, and I highly recommend
this modification to anyone considering it.
In addition to the toolbox, we found that adding a storage basket to the roof significantly
increased our storage options. This allowed us to carry larger items like firewood, extra water, or camping gear without cluttering the interior of the trailer. The extra storage options were a game- changer for longer trips when you need more supplies on hand.
One recommendation I would make is to run two batteries instead of just one, as we found that the single battery ran out of power more quickly than we anticipated. Adding a good solar charging setup would also be wise for extended off-grid camping trips. These upgrades would
ensure that you can stay powered up for longer, even in remote areas with no access to
electricity.

While the XTR excels in many areas, one small drawback was the window over the sleeping
area. It let in a lot of light in the mornings, which made it hard to sleep in. Tinted windows or
some kind of blackout shade would be a nice addition to improve comfort when camping in
bright, sunny areas.
Finally, the XTR tows outstandingly at highway speeds. It was stable and easy to control, and
despite its off-road capability, it didn’t feel cumbersome on paved roads. Offroad, the excellent
ground clearance and compact size made it easy to maneuver even in tight spots. Overall, the
Vintage Trailer Works XTR is an outstanding trailer for anyone looking for an off-road-ready,
well-designed camping setup that doesn’t compromise on comfort or capability.
